Job Hunting, C++, and lighter life stuff

So, the job hunt continues. Or rather, the job haunt continues, with my resume seemingly ghosting every recruiter in the entertainment industry. Apparently, “combat veteran with extensive experience leading teams through high-stress situations” doesn’t translate as well to the civilian world as I’d hoped. My lack of professional experience in this particular realm is proving to be about as welcome as a screen-door on a submarine.

Networking, they say. It’s all about who you know, they say. Well, currently, “who I know” is mostly me, myself, and I, and let me tell you, we’re not exactly a high-powered social circle. As a war veteran, I’ve faced my share of battles, and I’m still working through the aftermath. Socializing and making small talk feels a bit like trying to perform ballet in a suit of armor when you are still healing. I can barely give positive energy to myself, let alone be a shining ray of friendship to others, so I keep to myself, a lone wolf howling at the moon of my own anxieties, and my own healing journey.

But hey, at least the digital world is a bit brighter! My passion project, DarkAge, a 3D survival RPG, is actually starting to resemble a game and not just a collection of error messages (though there were plenty of those). Right now, I’m wrestling with the inventory system, which is like the junk drawer of any good RPG – essential but prone to chaos.

And because I apparently enjoy making things harder for myself, I decided to code most of it in C++. Yes, that C++. The language that makes you appreciate the simplicity of, say, brain surgery. But hey, at least it’s keeping my mind occupied, and when it compiles, the sense of accomplishment is almost as good as landing a job. Almost.

So, that’s where I’m at. Jobless, a bit socially isolated, but making a pretty decent inventory system, if I do say so myself. Stay tuned for more tales from the trenches, both virtual and real, and maybe, just maybe, one day I’ll have some good news to share. Until then, I’ll be here, coding, surviving, and trying not to scare away any potential employers with my intense hermit, veteran energy. Wish me luck!
